This morning I had a request for unheated Ceylon sapphires at roughly 7ct size. Sapphires from Sri Lanka are known as Ceylon sapphires, based on the old name for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is affectionately known as Ratna Dweepa, which translates to Gem Island. It lives up to its namesake by being one of the premier places on the planet for sapphires and a host of other precious and beautiful gems. Today however was all about sapphires, and I had to source locally. Living in NYC, I am lucky to be close to many suppliers of gems, some of which carry an amazing variety of stones.
These three gems fit the bill of what I needed. 3 different shapes, all really beautiful and relatively clean.
